IELTS test dates in Pakistan 2026 aren’t a fixed national calendar. IELTS on computer runs on many days of the week, and the dates open to you depend on your city, test centre, test type and the seats still free, so the only reliable list is the live booking system of the British Council or IDP.
This guide shows where to find live IELTS exam dates in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities, how far in advance to book, how to choose the right date for your deadline, how to reschedule, and how the Speaking test is timed. The providers’ pages were checked on 13 October 2026.

Where to Find IELTS Test Dates in Pakistan
Pakistan’s two official IELTS providers publish live schedules. Dates and seats differ by provider, city, centre and test type, so check both before you choose.
- British Council Pakistan: pick your city from the dropdown on its dates and locations page to see the schedule, then follow the booking link.
- IDP Pakistan: search its date finder by city; it lists 36 test centres in Pakistan.
- The official IELTS centre finder: find centres near you, then confirm the session with the provider.
A search result, a screenshot or an agent’s list of dates goes out of date as test seats fill. Confirm the test type, city, fee, date and time in the provider’s live booking system before you pay.
How Often Are IELTS Tests Held in Pakistan?
The British Council says IELTS on computer gives you more test days through the week and a shorter booking period, and IDP’s date finder shows several sessions at each centre. That doesn’t mean every test runs every day in every city.

Listening, Reading and Writing are taken in one sitting, with no break between them. The British Council says morning sessions usually run from 9am to 12pm, and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 4pm.

The list of cities changes from time to time, so use the providers’ live filters rather than any fixed list.
IELTS Dates in Karachi
Both providers have test centres in Karachi, and the British Council runs standard IELTS, IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills there. Select Karachi and your exact test in each booking system, and compare the sessions that still have seats. Check IDP’s Karachi sessions.
IELTS Dates in Lahore
The British Council runs all three test types in Lahore, and IDP lists more than one Lahore centre. Don’t assume IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills follows the standard test’s schedule. Check British Council dates.
IELTS Dates in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
Both providers have test centres in Islamabad, and IDP also lists Rawalpindi. Check the exact venue in your booking confirmation, because the two cities’ centres are listed together. Check IDP’s Islamabad sessions.
Check the other provider, another test centre in the same city, or a nearby city you can reach easily. Each provider’s seats are separate and change quickly. Don’t pay for travel until the provider confirms your test place.
How Far in Advance Should You Book Your IELTS Exam Date?
There’s no reliable rule such as “book three weeks ahead”. Late test seats do appear, but nobody can promise one in your city. Book once you’ve checked the test you need, how ready you are, your deadline and the live availability.

Work backwards from your deadline, not forwards from today.
The British Council needs your payment within 3 days of booking and at least 3 days before your first test (Speaking or the main test, whichever comes first). A date is only yours once your seat is confirmed: if your preferred test date is full, the British Council moves you to your next preferred date or the soonest available one.
How to Choose the Right IELTS Test Date
The best date isn’t simply the first one shown. It has to match the test your receiving organisation accepts, leave you enough time to prepare, and still meet your deadline.
Can You Change Your IELTS Exam Date?
Yes, but the rules depend on how many days are left. Both providers publish the same rules for standard IELTS; IELTS for UKVI, Life Skills and exceptional circumstances have their own.

With the British Council, you move your date in the Test Taker Portal, under “Manage my booking”. If you’re ill or have an emergency, contact your test centre quickly with evidence: approval isn’t automatic, and you have to apply before the test or within two calendar days after it. When Is the IELTS Speaking Test?
Listening, Reading and Writing are taken together on one day. Speaking can be on the same day, or up to 7 days before or after, depending on the provider, the centre and the slots available.
- British Council: you choose an available Speaking slot on the main test day or within a week before or after it. If the slot has to change, the British Council tells you by email or phone.
- IDP: some centres hold Speaking on the same day, and others up to 7 days before or after.
- The test itself: a live, recorded interview with a certified IELTS examiner, lasting 11–14 minutes.
Your booking confirmation is the final word on your own Speaking date, time and venue.
