IELTS BOOKING

IELTS registration in Pakistan is done with one of the two official providers, the British Council or IDP. You choose the exact test your university or visa asks for, pick a city and date, enter your details exactly as they appear on your ID, and pay the fee shown at checkout.

This guide walks through both providers’ booking steps, the ID and payment methods each accepts, what happens after you pay, and the refund and transfer rules. Everything was checked on the providers’ own pages on 13 October 2026.

QUICK ANSWER

Book with the British Council or IDP, online or (with IDP) at a branch. Choose the exact test your university or visa asks for, pick a city and date, enter your name exactly as it appears on your ID, and pay at checkout. On 13 October 2026, IELTS on computer cost PKR 75,600 or PKR 76,240, depending on the city.

BOOK ON THE OFFICIAL PAGES ONLY

Register through British Council Pakistan or IDP IELTS Pakistan. Both run the same test, with the same papers, marking and band scale, so your choice of provider doesn’t change your score.

Before You Start Your IELTS Registration

Get these three things right before you open a checkout. Fixing the wrong test after booking can mean cancelling and paying again.

01
Academic or General Training. Copy the exact test name, the overall band and the minimum for each skill from the organisation receiving your result. Canada Express Entry, for example, needs General Training and doesn’t accept One Skill Retake. Not sure? Read IELTS General vs Academic.
02
Standard IELTS, IELTS for UKVI or IELTS Life Skills. A UK destination doesn’t automatically mean a UKVI test. Check your exact visa route in GOV.UK’s SELT guidance, then your sponsor and any course or regulator rule.
03
Provider, city and date. Compare both providers’ pages for the city and date you want. Their latest price lists charge the same in most cities, so choose on dates and convenience.

Standard IELTS in Pakistan is taken on computer at a test centre: IDP says IELTS on computer is now the only format it offers here, and the British Council lists computer-delivered tests. If you need a special arrangement because of a disability or a medical condition, contact the provider before you book.

IELTS Registration with the British Council: Step by Step

01
Open the Book your IELTS test page, find your test type and city in the fee table, and click Book Now.
02
Create an account or sign in, then choose an available date and time.
03
Enter your details exactly as they appear on your passport or CNIC, including the spelling and order of your name.
04
Pay within 3 days of booking, and no later than 3 days before your first test (Speaking or the main test, whichever comes first).
05
Check your email. The British Council confirms your start time and venue, and sends your IELTS Reference Number for the Test Taker Portal. You can choose your Speaking time: on the main test day, or up to a week before or after it, if there’s space.

If you pay online for Academic or General Training during working hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), your registration is confirmed by email the same day. Offline payments are confirmed the next working day. If you’ve heard nothing within 48 hours of paying, the British Council asks you to email your payment proof and reference number to the address on its booking page.

INCLUDED IN THE BRITISH COUNCIL FEE
  • Free access to IELTS Ready Premium: 40+ practice tests, model answers and feedback from IELTS experts.
  • Five extra Test Report Forms, sent free to the universities or immigration offices you’re applying to.

IELTS Registration with IDP: Step by Step

You can book with IDP online, or offline at your nearest IDP branch.

01
Go to IDP IELTS Pakistan and select Book Now.
02
Choose your test (IELTS Academic, General Training or IELTS for UKVI) and your city.
03
Pick a date and time, then sign up or log in to your IELTS profile.
04
Complete the application form and upload a clear colour scan of your passport, following the identity instructions on the booking screen.
05
Pay by credit card online, by bank transfer, or in cash at an IDP branch if you registered offline, then confirm your booking.

After you pay, IDP sends an acknowledgement by email or SMS, and for some tests a separate link to choose your Speaking slot. Five to seven days before the test, it sends a final confirmation email with the date, time and venue (as soon as possible if you booked less than 5 days before). Check your spam folder if it doesn’t arrive.

APPLICANTS UNDER 18

Candidates under 18 need written consent from a parent or guardian, and the British Council doesn’t recommend IELTS for test takers under 16. Check which consent form your provider needs before you start.

What Happens After You Register

  • Confirmation email: your test date, start time and venue.
  • Speaking test: often on a different day from the main test. The British Council lets you pick a time on the main test day or within a week either side; IDP may send a separate link.
  • Your portal: the Test Taker Portal (British Council) or your IELTS profile (IDP) is where you check your booking, use preparation materials and later see your result.
  • Plans change? The cancellation and transfer rules below depend on how close the test is.

Standard IELTS, checked on both providers’ pages on 13 October 2026. IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills have their own policies.

If you’re ill or have an emergency, you can ask your test centre for special consideration, with evidence, before the test or up to two calendar days after it if you didn’t attend. The British Council replies within seven working days, and approved refunds can take 4–6 weeks. Read the current policy for your booking on the British Council or IDP Pakistan page.

Common IELTS Registration Mistakes

MISTAKE 01
Booking the wrong test

General Training when your university needs Academic, or the other way round, means the result can’t be used for that application, whatever your score. Confirm the requirement before you pay, not after.

MISTAKE 02
Typing your name differently from your ID

A missing middle name or a different spelling can cause problems on test day and on your Test Report Form. Type your name exactly as it appears on the document you’ll bring.

MISTAKE 03
Assuming the UK always means IELTS for UKVI

Find the exact approved test and level for your route in GOV.UK’s SELT guidance, then check with your sponsor. A wrong product generally can’t be changed after booking.

MISTAKE 04
Paying late

The British Council needs your payment within 3 days of booking and at least 3 days before your first test. Pay as soon as you’ve chosen your date, and keep the proof.

MISTAKE 05
Booking before you’re ready

Refunds stop 14 days before the test, and moving your date costs 25% from 5 to 14 days before. Choose a date that leaves enough time to prepare, and check you’re ready with a full timed mock test. Our free IELTS level check estimates your band in all four skills, with Writing and Speaking marked within 24 hours.
